Read CHAPTER 9 of the textbook: I ask you to read bits and pieces of this chapter and not necessarily in order. All 3 personal assessments from this chapter. The first is on page 183, the second on page 191 and the third on page 193. We will discuss the results as we go through the lecture. Because of this, I ask you to just read the lecture notes below and when I reference certain pages, you can read them at that time for better fluidity, clarity and comprehension. I will walk through the chapter, providing supplemental information and examples like I did for the cultural dimensions chapter. Please note that by me giving you only a few pages that you need to truly and deeply know and understand, I will not be re-covering them in this lecture, I expect you to ask any questions you have about the material, and I will expect you to be able to identify, apply and give examples for this material I assign.

discussion guideline – format: Think of this more as an essay or blog as opposed to a typical discussion post. I usually include a suggested length in the discussion guidelines but in general, no less than 3 paragraphs should be written for each initial post. Make sure to address all sections and all prompts in your discussion post. And again remember, this is how I am grading your learning and engagement with course material. Using short direct quotes from readings and/or videos, using class vocabulary and referencing class concepts will strengthen your post and your grade.

Week 9 discussion question file

In the lecture notes, you are asked to fill out 3 self assessments found in this week’s textbook chapter. For part 1 of this week’s discussion I want you to discuss the results of the assessments. For each of the 3 assessments I want you to answer the following 2 questions:

* which conflict style from this assessment had the highest score for you (e.g. collectivistic or individualistic conflict lens?)?

* do if you agree that the style with the highest score best represents your conflict style from the options given in that assessment (e.g. if your highest score was collectivistic conflict lens do you agree or do you think you have a more individualistic conflict lens?). Make sure to explain why or why not. Be specific and, if possible, give examples from your life that support your claim.

After walking through the results, give a specific example of how knowing this information about yourself could help you manage your intercultural conflict.

Part 2

Pick one other concept from this week and either share a personal example of it and/or pose a question to the class about it (please write at least a solid paragraph for this part
